I long for you
I long for you
Where can you be found?
I long for flowing waters
A safe place to lay me down
Where have you gone?
You seem so far away
Darkness is around me
Tears my only food
I want a little taste
A small glimpse of your face
Where are you, God?
I need you in this place
I long for you, oh God
I pour out my inner torn
Oppression buffets my place
Constant darkening storm
I light a candle
A flickering light
Still candles burn brighter
A little strength for the night
I know you’re there
Never to leave
Meet me in this darkened room
Your truth to which I cling
I am the way
I am the truth
I am the life
Fold yourself into my wings
Grow your knowing
Grow your trust
Grow your drinking of little sips
From ancient rivers eternal flowing
I have never left
I have always been
In the darkness you will find
A friend, a friend indeed
Meditate on my ancient words
I will never leave
Find solace for the soul
Daily manna for the whole
I am right beside you
Ancient wisdom to endow
I’m pulling you into me now
In your darkest hour
I long for you
As much as you do for me
Come lay your head upon my chest
On me find your place of rest

Psalm 42:1-6
As a deer longs for flowing streams,
so my soul longs for you, O God.
My soul thirsts for God,
for the living God.
When shall I come and behold
the face of God?
My tears have been my food
day and night,
while people say to me continually,
‘Where is your God?’
These things I remember,
as I pour out my soul:
how I went with the throng,[a]
and led them in procession to the house of God,
with glad shouts and songs of thanksgiving,
a multitude keeping festival.
Why are you cast down, O my soul,
and why are you disquieted within me?
Hope in God; for I shall again praise him,
my help and my God.
My soul is cast down within me;
therefore I remember you
from the land of Jordan and of Hermon,
from Mount Mizar. Psalm 42:1-6
