Gliding in orbit high above the planet X5-42 the Starship Good Providence had sent down two of its intrepid explorers.
Commander Spock and Captain Kirk are exploring the land.
They are on a mission to explore strange new worlds; to seek out new life and new civilizations; to boldly go where no man has gone before!
Hiding behind some bushes, they see some human-like creatures gathered around a fire.
These humans are singing some songs and then they, with spocked amazement, watch as each person listens intently to the other.
They share a simple meal.
Words are spoken.
Prayers said. A warm glow mingles between them.
Jim and Spock use their tricorders to scan the group.
There seems to be a warm, almost fiery orange presence flowing in and around them.
Spock whispers into Jim’s ear.
This is Church, Jim, but not as we know it.
Class
Back in 1987 a song came out called ‘Star Trekkin’.
In it were the words “It’s life, Jim, but not as we know it”. I have have played around with the words to make it about Church.
‘This is Church, Jim, but not as we know it.’
My idea is about what church would look like if, for some reason, we saw it on another planet.
A planet where it had not evolved into being about buildings, programs, rules, regulations, hierarchy and power.
What would we see?
Could we create this in some way, here and now, where travellers into our community might also say that this looks like church but ‘not as we know it’?

Privacy:
The class will be on Zoom, so this means that you can be as private as much as you like. No one needs to see you. It’s over to you. There will be a chat option where you can comment and chat with others if you want.
A recording will be made, but your face and comments won’t be seen.
The recording will be available to watch later on YouTube but will be ‘Unlisted’ so that only those with the link will be able to see it. It will not be open for the entire world to see.

It will be given via Zoom.
If you don’t have Zoom, then please download it if you want to attend.
Otherwise, a recording of the class will be posted on YouTube for you to view there.

The cost of this class is a donation. ($3 US minimum). If you can’t afford this, please email and I will send you the links.
Monthly donors receive automatic access. Become a monthly donor.
Once registered, class members will receive a Zoom link to the class.
In-person attendance is not required.
The class will be recorded and available for later viewing on YouTube for those who have signed up to the class.
