It Rests on Grace
It Rests on Grace
The greatest gift
Given to me
Is the gift of grace
A kindness undeserved
My hope it rests on abundant grace
I can’t see any other way
The acceptance of my dusty life
The raising up to a new day
Grace is like a warm, welcoming home
When you have been traveling too far too long
Open arms greet my tired soul
‘Come in and rest’
‘Listen to my song’
It all rests on grace
Justice can only be harsh
Mercy offers up a hope
Grace floods through an open door
I need thy grace
I need thy home
To offer grace to others
Who have wandered and are alone
I rest on the provision of grace
From you I give to others
Can I give it to myself
Only from you
My source, my lover
It rests on grace
Everything I do
The grace from others
My grace given to you
Will you give me grace?
Will you pardon the inexcusable in me?
Will you grant me what you most need
When you are on prodigal knees
It rests on grace
Humanities fallen self
Come, please enter in
Grace is a beautiful wealth
It rests on grace
A gift for the undeserved
A silent, gentle kiss
On broken souls and unmet hurt
A simple little sip
Is what I need for today
My life rests on grace
Held within its sway
Teach me how to give such grace
An openness for others to find
A new and living way
New life
New wine
For this reason it depends on faith, in order that the promise may rest on grace and be guaranteed to all his descendants, not only to the adherents of the law but also to those who share the faith of Abraham (for he is the father of all of us) Romans 4:16

God makes grace out of our grit, salvation out of our sin. We are saved, ironically, not by doing it right as much as by the suffering of having done it wrong. We come to God not through our perfection (thank God!) as much as through our imperfection. Finally, all must be forgiven and reconciled. Life does not have to be fixed, controlled, or even understood for us to be happy. Richard Rohr
