You have to scratch where people itch.
Have you ever been asked to scratch someone’s back. You start to scratch and then they say a little to the left, up a bit, down a bit then the words ‘ahh’ drift out. You know that you have found the spot.
When you write blogposts and put out content you wonder if you are hitting the mark. If what you put out makes a difference. Some times you get feedback, but mostly you don’t.
So I thought I would do a little research into my twitter account to see what Tweets really resonated with people. What tweets connected with people and what this might say about what resonates with people who follow me on Twitter.
So I went into my Twitter Campaigns Account manager and reviewed what tweets relieved the most engagement over the past year.
So here they are
My Top Ten Tweets

– that has to be earned back again.

Big themes come out of little tweets.
Forgiveness, Silence, Hope, Anxiety, Recovery, Identity, Expectations, Feelings.
What does this say to me.
- These themes are a reflection of myself. As I scan this list of themes I recognise myself. Now of course I do. I posted these tweets and I don’t put out tweets or content that don’t, in someway, connect with me.
- The tweeter followers that engage with my tweets are like me. Like attracts like. I have a group of wonderful twitter followers who struggle with the same things I do. When I tweet some pithy little statement it is like we have a shared connection. ‘I get that, I know what you’re saying, been there, done that, got the tear stained Tee Shirt’
- This is humanity. If I was to have a deep soul caring conversation with you. A chat where we were true, open and honest with each other, I think these themes would emerge. If we were to be true and vulnerable, our conversation would deepen. We would discuss struggles with forgiveness and trust, finding hope when its dark, handling overload and anxiety.
So perhaps this is a bread trail that my twitter followers have laid out for me to follow. This is the content that feeds their twittering soul.

Hi Barry, I find your tweets insightful and refreshing. You are right in that speak of a shared awareness of pain of different sorts, and they have been invaluable to me in recent weeks when I have been suffering with depression secondary to burnout
Thanks Colin, so glad that have been of help to you. Barry
